Critical Role is probably the most well-known show when it comes to Dungeons & Dragons. Over the years, Matt Mercer and crew have provided fans with dozens of exciting and intense campaigns, collaborating with brands and video game developers such as Baldur's Gate 3 developer Larian Studios, to create memorable one-shots that have gone down a treat with their respective fanbases.
Critical Role is no stranger to a good crossover, and it will be making the jump to TCG next year. Announced by UniVersus Games in a recent roadmap update, two new Challenger Series sets are being made in collaboration with Critical Role, based on two of their more popular campaigns.
The first Challenger Series, based on Vox Machina, will feature the twins Vex'ahlia and Vax'ildan and will depict their adventure through Exandria in Campaign 1, while the second Challenger Series will focus on Campaign 2 and will feature Jester and Nott from Mighty Nein. Both of these Challenger Series will be available on March 21, and you can actually pre-order them from your local game store right now if you're interested.
The Universus website even has a handy tool you can use to find your nearest participating game store if you're struggling to find one.
If you're a Critical Role fan not too familiar with TCGs, don't dismiss this announcement just yet. Universus deliberately made the Challenger Series to appeal to new players, as these are pre-constructed decks with self-contained rulesets that allow newcomers to easily pick up and play the game. They contain mechanically unique cards you can only find in the Challenger Series, and they're a lot less daunting than jumping into a TCG with no prior knowledge.
