French publishing giant Ubisoft has attempted to clarify the confusion about the deletion of inactive accounts.
In a statement to Eurogamer, the firm said that it does not delete accounts of users that have purchased games; nor will it do so if there is an active subscription attached to the account. Ubisoft also says that it does not delete accounts that have been inactive for less than four years.
"For many years now, we have implemented our account deletion process in compliance with the requirements of the GDPR," Ubisoft said.
"Our policies are aligned with legal requirements and with the standards of the industry. This measure also acts as a protection for our players against fraud."
This follows users reporting that Ubisoft was deleting accounts that were deemed to be 'inactive'. At the time, the firm said that you could avoid this by engaging with one of three emails that would be sent to users in the 30 day period prior to their account being deleted.
