Ubisoft has a few notable projects in the works, like the series of Assassin’s Creed titles. Their move lately has been dialing back and focusing on those key pillar IPs for the company. As a result, we’ve seen reports of different internal projects being scrapped. One of the game projects that was reportedly just scrapped was the sequel to one of Ubisoft’s newest IPs, Immortals Fenyx Rising. When this report surfaced online yesterday, it spread like wildfire, with media outlets sharing the unofficial cancellation of this game sequel.
Of course, at the time, Ubisoft’s spokesperson was not keen on giving out any comments. There was the standard statement of Ubisoft not commenting on anything related to rumors or speculation. Most would have assumed that this story would end right there. However, Ubisoft had a change of heart and has since made one statement on the matter to VGC. This media outlet first reported on the game cancellation from sources close to the project. While Ubisoft didn’t outright state that this game was canceled, they confirmed what was happening with the team that was supposedly handling the project.
Immortals Fenyx Rising was developed under Ubisoft Quebec, which was also previously the development team that worked on Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. According to the statement provided by Ubisoft, they have reallocated some of the creative teams and resources within the Quebec studio. This was part of their new global strategy that allowed the development team to use their expertise and technologies further to accelerate the development projects of their biggest brands.
