Circana (formerly known as the NPD Group) has released the data for software and hardware sales in the United States for the month of June 2023, and to no one’s surprise, some of the biggest new releases of month dominate the top of the charts.
Diablo 4, Final Fantasy 16, and Street Fighter 6 were the three biggest releases of the month that released in quick succession, and those three also sit on top of the sales charts respectively. Other new releases in the top 10 include F1 Manager 2023 at No. 15, and Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life at No. 17.
Diablo 4 has also instantly become the US’ third best-selling games of the year so far, behind Hogwarts Legacy and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Meanwhile, Final Fantasy 16 and Street Fighter 6 have entered the year-to-date charts at No. 9 and No. 10 respectively.
Notably enough, Street Fighter 6’s launch month sales in the US are also twice as high as what Street Fighter 5 managed, while it’s also seen the biggest launch month for a head-to-head fighter since 2019’s Mortal Kombat 11.
On the hardware front, the PS5 dominated proceedings, emerging as the best-selling console of the month in the US in terms of both dollar and unit sales, which means it also continues to lead the way on both fronts for the entirety of the year so far. PlayStation unit sales in June 2023 were also the highest they’ve ever been in a single month since June 2010, while PlayStation hardware spending hit its highest total for the month of June since 2008.
