Ubisoft vet Holmes promoted to Far Cry IP director
French publishing giant Ubisoft has promoted Drew Holmes to head up its Far Cry IP.
The news was revealed in a post on LinkedIn – spotted by VGC – in which the eight-year company vet wrote that there are "big things in store" for the franchise.
Holmes joined Ubisoft in 2016 as a lead writer, working on Far Cry New Dawn, before being promoted to narrative director in 2019. In April 2020 he became lead writer before rising to be brand narrative lead for the Far Cry franchise at the start of 2023.
Prior to joining Ubisoft, Holmes worked at Deep Silver Volition and Irrational Games, contributing writing to Saints Row 2 and 3 and BioShock Infinite, as well as the Guerrilla and Armageddon entries in the Red Faction franchise.
"It's been an exciting few months," Holmes wrote.
"I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as IP Director of Far Cry at Ubisoft. We have big things in store. Don't hesitate to reach out if you want to be a part of the next evolution of this great brand."
Holmes taking over as IP director for the Far Cry franchise might suggest that development for the series moving forward might be returning to Ubisoft Montreal. That studio headed up the third, fourth and fifth numbered entries in the franchise, while Ubisoft Toronto led 2021's Far Cry 6.
