So given how troubled the development has been for Ubisoft’s Prince of Persia: Sand of Time remake has been, we may have to accept the fact that we will never see it for quite a while (if at all, even). However, it would appear that someone at Ubisoft wisely decided to speak up and go “Hey, why don’t we just make a NEW Prince of Persia game? And maybe something actually smaller in scope?” And wisely, someone listened, and that is how we wound up with today’s announcement of Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown at Summer game Fest 2023, whose reveal trailer you can check out below.
Notably, this new entry sees Prince of Persia returning to the 2D roots of the original games, being a side-scrolling adventure. Of course, while the game is heading back to a 2D approach when it comes to maneuvering around traps and obstacles in a side-scrolling adventure, the more fast-paced movement, combat, and animations are definitely calling back to the more modern games in the series, from Sands of Time forwards. Hopefully, this should end up being the best of both worlds, and unlike certain remakes, we won’t have to wait that long for Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, as it arrives for all major platforms on January 18, 2024, with more info to come at next week’s Ubisoft Forward event.
