Assassin’s Creed Mirage gameplay has been released by Ubisoft, with the company previewing the game ahead of its launch on 12th October 2023.
This is a real throwback to the original run of Assassin’s Creed games, with an emphasis on stealth action and parkour, as opposed to the action RPG gameplay of more recent games.
Assassin’s Creed Mirage follows Basim Ibn Ishaq, a character who appeared in AC Valhalla, but at a much earlier time of his life. It’s a coming of age story for Basim, as he goes from a street thief to being one of the leading Hidden Ones under the tutelage of Roshan. However, there’s tragedy to his tale, and even as he’s inducted into this group, he’s haunted by nightmarish visions.
The game takes place in Baghdad, an open city to explore and adventure in, but a setting that is on the tipping edge to uprising and the Zanj revolution.
AC Mirage gameplay is very evocative of the original games. Parkour is easy, but is meant to have an edge to it that is hard to master, while Badim has a number of tools at his disposal, including smoke bombs, blow darts and throwing knives. There’s five tools to earn and upgrades to them all, while out and out combat is intended as a last resort to finish off kills, and with combo attacks and parries at its core.
The gameplay demo showed off a quick assassination pretty much right in the open before dashing off through the streets, pulling over open shelving to create a dusty barrier. Not long after Basim makes his way through to a bureau safe house where he’s given a contract and snags the blow dart as a new tool.
