Twelve years after the game was announced, Until Dawn is being turned in to a movie
thesixthaxis.comThe Hollywood Reporter have revealed that a movie based on the PlayStation 4 and PC game Until Dawn is being prepared. The screenwriter of It, Annabelle and The Nun, Gary Dauberman, is doing a pass on the script while Shazam! director David F. Sandberg will be sitting in the big chair.
The movie will be produced by Screen Gems and PlayStation Productions, both Sony companies, and joins the likes of God of War, Gran Turismo, Uncharted and The Last of Us, all of which have moved to television or cinemas.
We would presume the cast for the game will not be returning, Hayden Panettiere is now 34 years old and probably can’t get away with playing a teenager anymore. The game also featured the then little know actor Rami Malek.
Until Dawn seems a rather odd choice to adapt in to a movie as the game was made as homage to horror movies and features many well worn tropes. There’s a group of plucky teenagers who get killed one by one, a mysterious killer, cannibalistic hill billies and many more clichés, there’s nothing particularly original in the game so turning it in to a decent movie will be hard.
Until Dawn had a very long development time, not quite Beyond Good and Evil 2 lengths, but considerable. Originally announced as a PlayStation 3 Move title the game eventually turned up as a PS4 exclusive without any motion controls. It was a fairly big hit when it launched and we scored it 8/10 in our review.

What the did next was Until Dawn: Rush of Blood for PSVR 1, but then Supermassive Games stopped working with Sony and began the Dark Pictures Anthology with Bandai Namco.
