The upcoming movie has tapped as a writer.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Connolly is writing the script for Paramount’s G.I. Joe and Transformers crossover project. Thor and Furiosa’s Chris Hemsworth is in talks to star in the movie.
Connolly’s writing credits include 2012’s Safety Not Guaranteed, 2015’s Jurassic World, 2016’s Monster Trucks, 2017’s Kong: Skull Island, 2018’s Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, 2019’s Pokémon Detective Pikachu, 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, 2022’s Jurassic World Dominion, and 2024’s Deep Cover.
“The crossover feature will bring together two of Hasbro’s biggest toy lines, Transformers and G.I. Joe. It will pit the good guys – the robots in disguise Autobots and heroic Joes – against their archenemies, the dastardly Decepticons and conniving terrorist organization Cobra,” The Hollywood Reporter’s article says of the movie’s plot.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Mark Vahradian, Michael Bay, Tom DeSanto, and Don Murphy are producing the Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover movie, while Steven Spielberg and Hasbro Entertainment will be executive producers.
The crossover between the two Hasbro properties was hinted at in the final moments of 2023’s Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, which was directed by Steven Caple Jr. and starred Anthony Ramos. It is not yet known if Ramos will reprise his role as Noah Diaz in the new movie.
Before the crossover movie, Paramount is releasing an animated Transformers movie, titled Transformers One, in United States theaters this September. Hemsworth is voicing Optimus Prime/Orion Pax in Transformers One, while the cast also includes Brian Tyree Henry as Megatron/D-16, Scarlett Johansson as Elita, Keegan-Michael Key as Bumblebee, Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion, Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime, and Steve Buscemi.
The Transformers and G.I. Joe crossover movie does not yet have a release date.
