It might sound odd at first, but if you're looking for a good avenue for music discovery, you might want to consider Netflix. Many of the shows and movies on the platform have carefully chosen soundtracks curated by talented music supervisors—and they're all available for you to enjoy on Spotify.
Some of them are wildy popular, too. Headphonesty, a digital headphones magazine, recently took a look at Netflix's music collection on Spotify to determine and how much money its soundtracks have earned from streaming. Here's what they discovered:
The top spot goes to Purple Hearts, a musical about a marriage of convenience between a waitress/aspiring singer and a Marine. Sofia Carson stars as the singer, which is far from a stretch since she’s released her own music and plays the character Evie in all of the Descendants movie musicals.
Up next is another movie that lends itself to a Spotify spot, Tick, Tick...BOOM!. This biographical musical about Rent creator Jonathan Larson’s life is directed by Lin-Manuel Miranda and features Larson’s own music.
One of the ways Bridgerton breaks the rules is by using modern music in a Regency setting. It’s a formula that’s made Bridgerton Season Two (Covers) a hit. After all, what’s a ball without Wrecking Ball?
Don’t Look Up is bleak but Ariana Grande and Kid Cudi’s “Just Look Up” is…also bleak. But it’s beautiful and is what propelled this soundtrack to the fourth spot.
Bridgerton is on the list a few times but it owes its fifth place to the season one soundtrack, which had Vitamin String Quartet versions of Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, and Ariana Grande songs.
