announced the launch of its October 2023 update. The update introduces new quality-of-life features, including keyboard mapping to some Xbox Series X/S controllers.
PC players who use the Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 or Xbox Adaptive Controller can now map keys to buttons. While many PC games now come with native controller support, that still isn’t universally true. Older PC games often lack full gamepad support, and many newer games lack controller support for one reason or another. Third-party apps have long allowed PC gamers to map keys to controller buttons. However, this new update will make it a lot easier for some.
Starting this week, PC and Series X/S gamers can use the Xbox Accessories app to map any key to any button. Unfortunately, it is only for the Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 and Adaptive Controller. Standard Xbox Series X/S controllers don’t appear to be getting this functionality. Still, this is good news for players using those handsets.
In addition, the update also lets players directly upload game captures to Microsoft Clipchamp. Clipchamp users will notice a new “Xbox” option on the Import panel. The app will then ask users to sign in with their account, allowing them to edit and share their gameplay videos.
Microsoft is also making diagnostic data controls shared between consoles, Cloud Gaming, and the PC and mobile apps. Xbox users will find the data controls under Settings > Account > Privacy & Online Safety > Data Collection.
Additionally, Microsoft is also testing a new invite feature. Users can visit their profile page and invite friends to join a game. Microsoft will select a random sample of Xbox users who may choose to participate in the test.
