This week has been an unexpectedly busy one for The Witcher, particularly the Netflix adaptation of the games and books. Netflix quickly followed up on a look at the first poster for season three by dropping a trailer. A trailer confirming season three will be split into two volumes and spread over the summer, something the writers of the show have since revealed they were unaware of when putting the new season together.
“When we wrote the season, we didn’t have batching in mind,” Lauren Hissrich revealed (thanks, Redanian Intelligence). The first half of season three will be available to watch in full for Netflix subscribers from June 29. However, Witcher fans will have to wait until July 27 for the rest of the show to drop. A common trope that has been used by Netflix recently for the latest seasons of some of its other hit shows including Stranger Things and You.

Despite not planning for a month-long mid-season break, Hissrich explained that because of the particular point on the timeline season three takes place, having Netflix's batching technique actually works out pretty well. “That said, for any fans who are familiar with The Time of Contempt novel, there’s an epic event that explodes the Continent as we know it — the lead up to which provided a perfect cliffhanger for us .”
No spoilers here, but despite the writers of the adaptation previously revealing season three will include content not seen in The Witcher games or books, its story will still be based on something long-time fans are familiar with.
