Netflix isn’t the only company struggling with ‘The Witcher’: CD Projekt gives update on troubled ‘Witcher’ spinoff

Ever since Netflix completely fumbled the ball with The Witcher by losing Henry Cavill, the fandom has been on edge awaiting the next disaster to befall the franchise. Well, as disconcerting as it might sound, it looks like even CD Projekt Red is struggling with the development of new games.

A while ago, the Polish game developer responsible for producing and releasing the acclaimed Witcher trilogy — the product that gave rise to the story’s popularity in the first place — announced a plethora of new Witcher games under different codenames. One of them was Project Sirius, which was interestingly enough pitched as a title that fans of the Netflix adaptation would enjoy.

The only problem was the company’s next announcement in March, which underlined a troubled production at the Boston-based studio, The Molasses Flood. Now, CD Projekt is letting fans know that Sirius is moving ahead again with a “new framework,” whatever that means. The project is also getting a sizeable budget cut, though, to their credit, they’re reallocating a larger sum to other costs.

Sirius is only one of the Witcher projects currently in development at CD Projekt. We still don’t know what the game will entail, or how it’s going to tie into the Netflix series, but one thing is for certain; The Witcher is heading down a trajectory that is only spelling its doom.

I think, in light of recent developments, most fans would’ve preferred to say goodbye to the franchise with The Wild Hunt. Now, we seem to be presiding over an increasingly mediocre adaptation line-up that is as directionless as it is, dare I say, unnecessary.

Still, CD Projekt may have let fans down with Cyberpunk 2077, but it never failed to deliver on the Witcher front, so let’s at least try to
