The Umbrella Academy season 3 is packed with Easter eggs and references — some of which drive the entire plot. Based on the best-selling comics by My Chemical Romance singer Gerard Way, Netflix's The Umbrella Academy is one of the more unusual superhero TV adaptations. It serves as a welcome reminder that comic books have a lot more to offer than Marvel and DC.
A mismatched family assembled by reclusive billionaire Sir Reginald Hargreeves, the heroes of The Umbrella Academy have lurched from one disaster to another. Unfortunately, it seems their time travel escapades have fractured reality, and in The Umbrella Academyseason 3 they face a kugelblitz — something akin to a black hole, that threatens to consume all of space and time and has already destroyed the Commission. Matters aren't helped by the rivalry between The Umbrella Academy and another team of superheroes, The Sparrow Academy, assembled by Sir Reginald in their stead in this timeline. This is the most spectacular apocalypse to date, and The Umbrella Academy is even more out of their depth than ever before.

The Umbrella Academy season 3 is inspired by Hotel Oblivion comics storyline and also seems to draw on Gerard Way's plans for the yet-unpublished fourth story — known to be named The Sprarrow Academy.
