Netflix's The Umbrella Academy season 3 wastes Reginald Hargreeves's alien identity reveal from season 2's penultimate episode. Much as The Umbrella Academy's biggest season 3 twist gets skipped over, the popular superhero series also fails the potential of Reginald's alien identity. Instead, season 3 is mostly centered around the Umbrellas versus the Sparrows and the Kugelblitz threatening all of reality.
To the rest of the world, Reginald Hargreeves is merely an eccentric billionaire adventurer, but episode 9 of The Umbrella Academy season 2 reveals the deadly alien hiding underneath. Reginald briefly sheds his skin to massacre the group of men that organized the assassination of JFK after they threaten to expose the real Reginald to the world. However, Reginald keeps his human skin on for the entirety of The Umbrella Academy season 3.

The Umbrella Academy wastes Reginald's alien identity by not making his secret a larger aspect of season 3 outside of his motivation to save his destroyed home world. Instead, Reginald spends the first half of the season quietly docile due to the drugs administered by the missing Sparrow Academy, courtesy of former Hargreeves butler, Pogo. Given that Reginald ultimately orchestrates the reprogramming of the universe and resets everything in accordance with his desires, The Umbrella Academy season 3 could have had Reginald as a more active threat compared to the challenges the Umbrella and Sparrow Academies had to face.
