Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy is adapting the graphic novels by Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá. Returning for season 3 two years after season 2 was released, The Umbrella Academy leaves off on a cliffhanger ending that has become almost expected from the series.
The Umbrella Academy season 1 saw the Umbrella Academy trying to prevent the moon from destroying the world. Season 2 saw the siblings stuck in the 1960s as the risk of nuclear war loomed and they had to ensure that JFK was assassinated. So season 3’s plot line about meeting their doppelgangers, the Sparrow Academy, and attempting to save the universe from the Kugelblitz was strangely on-brand for the series.

While they weren’t able to stop the Kugelblitz from destroying the universe and the timeline, the heroes were able to get to Oblivion. There, they were able to restart the universe but this time largely to Reginald Hargreeves' plans. While The Umbrella Academy season 4 has not been officially confirmed by Netflix, there are rumors that they may have already greenlit the series behind the scenes.
