Helldivers 2 lore is fairly straightforward: bugs and automatons are bad, managed democracy is good. So what's going on at the heart of this democracy, Super Earth? Well, the devs over at Arrowhead have given us a rare glimpse into what's going on there, but it only raises more questions than answers.
For starters, let's focus on the positives: the United Kingdom is gone. I'm from there, I can say that. On the map, we can see that the UK is listed as a "Last Great War Wasteland Zone", which sounds about right. We're not the only country that gets this fate, but let's just enjoy this while we can.
Alright, now for the bad news - Ireland is gone too. It seems that the Irish Sea wasn't enough to protect them from whatever happened over in Britain, because they've been deemed a wasteland too. On top of this, large parts of Canada, Russia and Greenland are gone, with the remaining habitable countries now part of larger sectors.
Even with a military-industrial complex constantly pumping out new helldivers for the slaughter, it looks like things aren't going too great at home. Or maybe its woes are caused by that seemingly endless military budget that goes towards soldiers and stratagems. That hardly leaves much left behind for building infrastructure, I imagine. Think about that when you're complaining about not getting enough reinforcements.
This map of Super Earth was shared by the devs in the official Helldivers 2 Discord server last month, and it gives us a rare look at the lore that's been created for this series. Right now, we can only duke it out on alien planets, but who knows? Maybe someday, we'll get a mission to liberate Super Earth itself - perhaps if we absolutely bottle our efforts at keeping the bugs and bots at bay.
