The Lord of the Rings Online Celebrates 16th Anniversary, Adds New Customization Options and More in 35.1

The Lord of the Rings Online is marking its 16th anniversary. Update 35.1 goes live today and brings the anniversary event, along with new character customization options and visual updates in addition to fixes and other adjustments.

Tomorrow, the anniversary event returns, and will run through May 11th. There are some new rewards this year, including the Anniversary Barter and Festivity Anniversary Barter, some new cosmetics, new goats, and housing items. There’s also an anniversary gift for Free People with a new title, Illuminator, to accompany some Incandescent Lightning Fireworks and a celebratory portrait frame. Monster players will get their own gift box with Violet Explosion fireworks instead, potions good for +5% attack damage, and a title, Extinguisher.’

This update also brings the recently-announced new customization updates. Not only are there some visual updates for existing customization options, there are some new options as well. Further, some options have had their gender requirement removed, creating more shared feature options. Initially, the updates are for humans, but the team plans more work on this aspect of the game overall. 

While you can use the new options to create new characters, the barber can make use of them for existing ones too.

Also in 35.1 are some changes and fixes, including to recently-added Return to Carn Dûm. Into Sant Lhoer, Thaurisgar, and Sagroth are now available up to Tier 5. Repeatable quests there are now set to the correct level, and quest items have also been adjusted to not be highlighted on the map. Of note, the boss and other monsters will no longer surprise spawn in at level 1. So that should be a relief if you’ve been itching to get back into Carn Dûm content.
