Nintendo announced in November that it had partnered with Sony Pictures to produce a live-action film based on The Legend of Zelda (much to the surprise of the sizeable contingent of fans who had been expected an animated film), and at Sony’s recent CES 2024 press conference, we got the briefest of updates based on the movie.
Taking the stage, after a rundown of the many films and TV shows Sony has in the works (which includes season 2 of HBO’s The Last of Us, a Gravity Rush movie, and TV shows based on God of War and Horizon, among a number of other projects), Sony CEO Kenichiro Yoshida also mentioned the Zelda movie, speaking about what fans can expect from it.
“We’re also excited about another IP expansion – the adaptation of Nintendo’s game franchise, The Legend of Zelda,” he said. “This live-action film will deliver an amazing tale of adventure and discovery.”
The Legend of Zelda is set to be directed by Wes Bell, who is known for the Maze Runner trilogy and the upcoming Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. Recently, Bell said he wants the movie to be like a live-action Studio Ghibli film- read more on that through here.
