The Elder Scrolls Online is previewing Update 44’s new Skill Styles and expanded Scribing ahead of the update, which starts rolling out on Monday.
The base game update is full of features, and the ESO team has previewed the major PvP changes on the way, the new Golden Pursuits challenges and rewards system, and more. Now, this latest preview is mainly for the owners of the Gold Road Chapter, as this is needed to access Scribing and some Skill Styles (though Skil Styles will be available to all in general).
Scribing expands a lot in the update, with 14 of the Scripts able to be added to nine Grimoires that they could not be added to before. This change greatly expands the build possibilities you can put together. Not only did they work to create expanded Frost mage options, another example given is adding Physical Damage for Elemental Explosion.
There’s also a brand new skill Grimoire, Banner Bearer. When cast, this will summon a banner on your back, That will give you and your allies a series of group bonuses that change depending on your script selections. This Grimoire was designed to be different, according to Scribing lead Kira Ross Schlitt, who says, “It’s a group buff with no 'direct' resource cost while also enabling new strategies, builds, and combinations of ways players could tackle group content’. If you are a support player, you'll now have many options to decide how to build out what works best to help your party, based on their roles or their styles as well.
ESO is also adding four new Skill Styles, two in the Psijic line, one for Destruction Staff, and one for One Hand and Shield. The Psijic skills get purple hues, accessed when you find certain lore books or via the Infinite Archive. The other two are earned by gathering fragments as you defeat certain bosses.
Update 44 is coming Monday, October 28th on PC/Mac and November 13th on console.
