The Day Before is now dated for a December 7th Early Access, and according to a new report, the previously-announced beta test will be open only to “volunteers” that work on the game.
Controversy over the use of the term «volunteers» goes back a while, when the team put out calls for volunteers to help with development. This, naturally brought up concerns over whether the team was using unpaid labor. We reached out for comment at the time, and Fntastic said that their employees are what they call volunteers. But they also call unpaid contributors volunteers. These are people that work on everything from localization to community support and lend their labor in different, yet unpaid, ways.
«part-time volunteers “get cool rewards, participation certificates, and free codes”, Fntastic says on its site.
Now, it seems that IGN has confirmed that the beta test for The Day Before is still set to happen, but it now looks like a perk for working on the game for free. Only volunteers will be invited to take part in the beta.
After months of mostly silence, yesterday, Fntastic announced the most recent delay, to a December 7th Early Access date, with a brand new trailer. This means that the initial release will be on PC only, with no word yet on planned console releases.
According to the IGN report, the team mentioned beta back in April and not since, except confirming to them directly that indeed, the beta test is a volunteer perk.
