Baldur's Gate 3's success surprised so many of us across the industry, from Microsoft to Larian itself. So, it's no surprise to hear that the game's cast was taken aback too, especially now that they're making huge appearances at conventions.
Astarion actor Neil Newbon confirmed as much in an interview with our lead features editor, Jade King. Speaking as the cast embarks on their first few big convention gigs since launch, Newbon says that he and the other companion actors have their own support group on WhatsApp. This helps them navigate the success the game suddenly shot into on launch day, especially as they all find themselves so busy.

"We have a companion character support group on WhatsApp,” Newbon tells TheGamer. "I think I created that a couple of days before release because I kinda knew what was going to happen, in a way."
Already appearing in big games before, Newbon knew how passionate fans could get. However, even with this experience, he was unprepared for just how much Baldur's Gate 3 would blow up.
"I didn’t know it was going to be this big," he says. "But I knew it was going to be interesting because I’ve been involved with Resident Evil, Detroit: Become Human, so I’ve seen how big these things can become."
