Super Mario Bros. Wonder changes up the classic 2D platformer formula in all kinds of ways. One of the most significant is the addition of badges, changeable pieces of equipment that can radically change gameplay in various ways. Some badges will make stages easier, while others will make them even harder, or just augment your playstyle with something to suit your personal preference. The game is bursting with badges, but you can only equip one at a time.
Action Badges are primarily earned through Badge Challenges, short stages that test your abilities with that badge before allowing you to equip it freely in other stages. Each Badge Challenge stage comes in two varities: the first stage is a simple challenge to earn the badge, and the second is a tougher challenge to show mastery of it. Completing either of the challenges will earn you the badge.
Boost Badges provide passive benefits, like extra opportunities for coins or saving you if you fall into a pit or lava. These are primarily purchased at Poplin Shops throughout the region. While some Boost Badges can be bought at several Poplin Shops, others first appear at specific shops. For the purposes of this guide, we've identified whichever shop is your first opportunity to purchase a badge.
Expert Badges are, like Action Badges, earned through Badge Challenges. These are much tougher than the standard Badge Challenges because Expert Badges tend to be much harder--hence the name, expert. These are meant to be skill-testing.
