There are several resources you have to find while exploring the mines of Moria in Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria. One of the more crucial resources is Black Diamond, and it can be challenging to come by.
There are only a handful of ways to track down this precious resource. You’ll need to advance deeper into the mine to track it down, and you’ll want to make sure your equipment is up to the task of making sure you can get out alive with it. Here’s what you need to know about how to find Black Diamond in Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria.
Players can track Black Diamonds down primarily by opening Orc Chests. These initially begin to appear when you enter the Elven Quarter in Return to Moria, typically when you start to find the Goblin Men appearing in the mines. These are much larger foes than the traditional Goblins and wolves you’ve already been fighting. They’re dangerous, and they can overwhelm you if you’re not careful.
Whenever you can find Goblin Men, chances are that the Orc Chests are not too far away. One of the better ways to open these chests is to use an Orc Key, which the Goblin Men drop in Return to Moria. However, they don’t have the best chance to drop. Because of their rarity, looking for these keys is not something I recommend for you to do. Instead, I find it better to primarily use a pick axe against the chest, breaking it open and locating the contents inside it.
I’ve typically found it easier to use a Steel Pickaxe to pick these open. That means you need to reheat the Great Forge of Narvi in the Elven Quarter to unlock them, but you can use the Simple Pickaxe, although it’s not recommended.
