The latest movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe,, looks to be having a rough time when it comes to presales.
Deadline has reported that presales for The Marvels are trailing behind two recent DC Studios films — Black Adam and The Flash. The outlet states that The Marvels presales potentially spell out one of the lowest openings for an MCU movie at less than $70 million. This means the Marvel Studios sequel is coming in below 2021’s Eternals, which had $71.2 million.
The original Captain Marvel, comparatively, made $153.4 million from its opening weekend. When it comes to the aforementioned DC movies, Black Adam eventually ended up opening with $67 million, while The Flash opened at $55 million.
“Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel has reclaimed her identity from the tyrannical Kree and taken revenge on the Supreme Intelligence,” the official synopsis reads. “But unintended consequences see Carol shouldering the burden of a destabilized universe. When her duties send her to an anomalous wormhole linked to a Kree revolutionary, her powers become entangled with that of Jersey City super-fan, Kamala Khan aka Ms. Marvel, and Carol’s estranged niece, now S.A.B.E.R. astronaut Captain Monica Rambeau. Together, this unlikely trio must team-up and learn to work in concert to save the universe as The Marvels.”
Brie Larson, Iman Vellani, and Teyonah Parris headline The Marvels as Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Monica Rambeau. Joining the trio are Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Zawe Ashton as Dar-Benn, and Park Seo-joon as Prince Yan.
