Twitch is leaving South Korea

In a blog post, the company's CEO, Dan Clancy, said that the service would leave the country on February 24th as it is too expensive to operate in Korea.
The exec claims that even after capping video quality to 720p, its network fees are 10 times more expensive in South Korea than in other countries. Clancy says that Twitch would be helping its streamers in the region move to other platforms.
"Twitch has been operating in Korea at a significant loss, and unfortunately there is no pathway forward for our business to run more sustainably in that country," Clancy wrote.
"To all of our global communities, we want to make it clear that this is a unique situation. Operating costs in Korea are significantly higher than they are in other countries and we have been open about this challenge for some time."
He added: "I want to reiterate that this was a very difficult decision and one we are very disappointed we had to make. Korea has always and will continue to play a special role in the international esports community and we are incredibly grateful for the communities they built on Twitch."
