Konami has enlisted fan favourite Metal Gear voice actor David Hayter to promote its recent series revival.
Hayter portrayed protagonist Solid Snake in 1998’s original series entry, as well as in multiple sequels and cameo appearances in other franchises, before creator Hideo Kojima decided to replace him with Kiefer Sutherland in 2015’s Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.
After Kojima’s acrimonious split from Konami, the Japanese publisher released 2018’s Metal Gear Survive to a lukewarm reception from fans and critics, and until recently the series had been dormant.

Hayter has returned to promote Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Volume 1, which was released last week and includes a number of the earlier series entries, while Konami is also working on a Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater remake for PS5, Xbox Series X/S and PC.
In the ‘Metal Gear Solid Legacy series’ teaser trailer above, Hayter touches on the franchise’s history and its impact on the wider medium, before teasing: “I hope you’re ready, because this is only the beginning.”
References to Metal Gear Solid 4, Metal Gear Solid 5 and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker have allegedly been found in the files of Volume 1, suggesting a second volume could one day include the other major Metal Gear series games not included in this month’s release.
