Super Mario Bros. Wonder sold 4.3 million copies in its first weeks to become the fast-selling Mario game in modern times. Nintendo said this does not apply to any Mario game sold prior to the Wii and DS because it did not collect software sell-through data before then.
Nintendo said it's optimistic that Wonder will continue to be a sales success because Mario games «tend to sell consistently over a long period of time.» The company added that Wonder should be an «appealing choice» during the holidays, and 2024 sales should be good, too, Nintendo said.

Super Mario Odyssey was previously the fastest-selling Mario game ever, shifting 2 million copies over its first three days.
Wonder is the first brand-new side-scrolling Mario game in 11 years. Nintendo said this novelty, and an uptick in Mario game sales overall due to the Super Mario Bros. Movie, «resulted in the large sales volume.»
The Super Mario Bros. Movie was released in April and sales of Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, Super Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario Maker 2, and Super Mario 3D World — Bowser's Fury all saw year-over-year increases in sales. Additionally, Mario games for mobile saw an uptick in new users, Nintendo said. Mario merchandise sales also increased.
