Despite artwork potentially emerging for Monolith Productions’ Wonder Woman, the production has been shrouded in mystery since its announcement in December 2021. It’s an open-world title and features the Nemesis System from Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor/War. Otherwise, we know very little about the title.
Unfortunately, it could be leaning into live service, much like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. A new job listing at Monolith Productions for Lead Software Engineer, Gameplay, has emerged. The position is for Wonder Woman, and while it all looks straightforward, the “Nice to Haves” section mentions, “Experience helping maintain a live software product or game.”
While this doesn’t directly confirm the inclusion of live service elements or their scale, it’s worth noting. Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav recently said the company is focusing on turning its biggest franchises from “largely console and PC based with three-four year release schedules to include more always on gameplay through live services, multiplatform and free-to-play extensions.”
That includes driving “engagement and monetization of longer cycles and at higher levels.” Together with this listing, it certainly points to future releases like Wonder Woman embracing the live service model in some way. Of course, time will tell, so stay tuned for more details and a proper reveal in the future.
