Rocksteady Studios has confirmed that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which has been known to be a live-service multiplayer shooter for some time, will receive an offline story mode sometime next year after its February launch.
The announcement was made at The Game Awards 2023 along with the release of a new trailer. The game’s always online requirement has been the source of much consternation amongst fans of Rocksteady’s long running series of Arkhamverse games, which have all been single player offline affairs up until now. This should come as a relief to fans who may want to play the game if servers are taken offline down the road for some reason.
It’s difficult to say how well the game will stack up against Rocksteady’s usual fare, especially since it appears Suicide Squad will leverage typical trappings found in live service games like Destiny 2, such as gear scores and battle passes shown in earlier footage released for the game, another aspect of the game that Arkhamverse fans have expressed apprehension over.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was originally set to release in January 2024 but was delayed to February 2, 2024 to give the game time for some additional polishing work. The game will be available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and Windows when it releases next year.
