LG CEO William Cho opened CEO with a talk about “affectionate intelligence,” where AI will be designed and used in the service of people.
In the first press session at CES 2024, Cho said the company is focusing on “responsible AI,” with a people-centric approach where it combines AI with our data (with our permission) and our environment to create better experiences with its products.
“We are facing our responsibility,” Cho said. “We all know AI stands for artificial intelligence. At LG, we focus on affectionate intelligence” with a focus on being caring and attentive, he said. This will be part of the way LG differentiates itself, Cho said.
For LG in the home, affectionate intelligence will take the form of a cute Smart Home AI Agent.

He said LG Shield will protect your data at every stage. It will do so by keeping your data on-device in your home, said LG executive Kihung Jung.
“We commit to responsible intelligence,” Cho said. “You, the customer, should be the one in control. When you are in control, you can enjoy life to the fullest. Life’s good is our promise to create a better life for our customers even in the age of AI.”
He said LG would support open APIs and open innovation. Universal UP Kit is for everyone to use LG appliances in terms of accessibility. These solutions are made of sustainable plastic. Innovations can reduce the burdens of cleaning so people can be more relaxed at home, said LG executive Henry Kim.
