Stranger Things season 5 will primarily take place in Hawkins, leaving Argyle’s role in the final installment a mystery. Alongside Dmitri “Enzo” Antonov and the now-deceased Eddie Munson, Argyle (Eduardo Franco) is one of Stranger Things season 4’s most significant new characters. Introduced as Jonathan's stoner best friend in California, Argyle becomes mixed up in the fight against Vecna and the Upside Down when the Byers family uses his Surfer Boy Pizza van for a dangerous cross-country road trip.
The ending for Stranger Things season 4, volume 2 sees Argyle, Mike, the Byers boys, and Eleven arrive in a completely destroyed Hawkins just two days after Vecna killed Max and opened the fourth gate. While Eleven reunites with Hopper, Jonathan with Nancy, and both Byers boys with Joyce, Argyle spends his time reuniting with nature and harvesting mushrooms. When the dark cloud rises over Hawkins and proves the Upside Down has officially taken over in the installment's closing scene, Eleven and the other characters—minus Argyle—look out at the destruction of their town, teasing the climactic fight to come in Stranger Things season 5's series-ending story.
