Stranger Things star Matthew Modine discusses his character Dr. Brenner's death in the series' explosive season 4 finale. Set in the '80s, Stranger Things focuses on the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, where a number of bizarre supernatural occurrences plague its residents. Featuring a stand out ensemble cast led by Millie Bobby Brown, Stranger Things explores the terrifying concept of the Upside Down, an alternate dimension that mirrors reality and plays host to a variety of horrifying creatures.
As Stranger Things has progressed through to season 4, audiences have learned more and more about Brown's character, Eleven, a young girl with powerful supernatural abilities who was was subjected to top-secret government experimentation. Stranger Things touched on her complex relationship with Dr. Brenner, who led these experiments, with his group of young test subjects raised to refer to him as Papa. Season 4 saw Eleven and Papa's relationship reach boiling point after they were reunited in an attempt to restore Eleven's powers. In Stranger Things season 4 episode 8, Modine's Dr. Brenner seemingly died after being shot during a military raid on the facility where he had been keeping Eleven.

Now, in an interview with Vulture, Modine discusses Dr. Brenner's Stranger Things fate, referencing his previous moments of resilience against the likes of One and a Demogorgon. When asked directly whether he would say that Brenner is dead, Modine immediately responds that he wouldn't.
