The Chinese Room has revealed the first trailer for its upcoming first-person adventure game, Still Wakes the Deep.
Announced during the Xbox Games Showcase 2023 with a brand-new gameplay trailer, Still Wakes the Deep is set to arrive in early 2024 for Xbox, PlayStation, PC, and day one on Game Pass. Set on an off-shore oil rig in the middle of the ocean, the player takes the role of a worker fighting for his life through a vicious storm.
In terms of story details, it's December 1975 and after disaster strikes the Beira D oil rig off the coast of Scotland, the player must navigate the collapsing rig to save their crew. The storm isn't the only threat. The player will also have to face «a terrifying, unrelenting foe,» that's managed to board the oil rig.
«All lines of communication have been severed,» the game description reads. «All exits are gone. All that remains is to face the unknowable horror that’s come aboard. Search for your crew and help them survive if you can. Run, climb, and swim through the flooding corridors and storm-lashed outer decks.»
The Chinese Room is best-known for its collection of horror games, including Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, and Dear Esther. An official release date for Still Wakes the Deep has yet to be confirmed, but more details can be found on the official website.
