Last Epoch just got a very steep hike in the number of concurrent players on Steam after adding multiplayer. The indie dungeon-crawler has been around in Steam’s early access for a while now, and though it had been building a solid fan base, the number of concurrent players it maintained before adding multiplayer was but a mere fraction of what it is now.
Last Epoch was released in Steam’s early access back in 2019, being constantly updated by its dedicated team of developers at Eleventh Hour Games while also building up a modest fan base. The team began with development focusing on refining Last Epoch's dungeon-crawling hack-and-slash gameplay first, and only then going over the graphics. Now, with the video game closing in on its expected release date sometime this year, the developers have released a host of balance changes, new content, and new features.

One of the new features included in the indie dungeon-crawler was multiplayer, after which its number of concurrent players on Steam went from around 700-1500 to an all-time high of 40,591, a remarkable feat for the video game and its developers alike. And while the number came down, by the evening of March 13, there were around 33,500 people still playing the game, still representing a major spike.
Often compared to classic dungeon-crawler Diablo because of its hack-and-slash gameplay, Last Epoch “combines time travel, exciting dungeon crawling, engrossing character customization and endless replayability to create an Action RPG for veterans and newcomers alike,” according to the description on the video game’s Steam page. The Action RPG holds a “very positive” overall review score with over 80%
