Stardew Valley players can spend hours trying to befriend each and every character in the game. There are over two dozen NPCs that players can interact with, get to know, and even marry. Though Stardew Valley has been out for years, one player found out something new when it comes to this mechanic and the in-game character portraits.
Stardew Valley drops players on their grandfather’s farm located next to a small community called Pelican Town. The game was released in 2016 and has seen commercial success since then. In a playthrough, players can give NPCs gifts and track how far their friendship has progressed through an in-game social menu.

U/Jazzbone1 on Reddit shares in this post an interesting feature that they had never seen before, despite having played the game for over 250 hours. The clip shows this player going through a few of the characters in Stardew Valley and their Gift Log. This menu is underneath the social tab of the in-game menu and to get here players need only click the NPC they wish to learn more about. In the clip, the player clicks on the small portraits of each character and discovers that each one has its own special emote. For example, Linus reacts to the click by showing off a scared look while Robin just giggles. It seems that each villager has their own unique emote in the game despite some players never having noticed it before.
Stardew Valley is a game that lends itself to longer playthroughs, making a discovery like this surprising. Though characters have their own emotes, this doesn't change anything in the game.
