Because of the open-world concept, players have a lot of options regarding what they do, or don’t do. Vess must maintain her reputation with different crime syndicates as they send her on various missions. While gaining reputation is most important, Vess also must look out for herself, and this is where the open-world concept is fully effective at creating an immersive and engaging playthrough.
During the «Underworld» quest, one of the initial missions in the game, Vess is instructed to infiltrate Gorak’s suite in the Pyke Syndicate’s district. Once Vess is inside, players will have Gorak’s ring in their inventory after Nix manages to steal the treasure. This ring has the potential to shift gameplay depending on how players want to use it and what is most important to the player: reputation or monetary gain. Whatever choice is made won’t drastically change any outcome, but one choice is more logical than the other. While giving the ring back to Gorak is better for a player’s rapport with the syndicate, it’s more financially savvy to sell it.
Reputation is an important aspect to consider while playing. Having an Excellent or Good reputation with the crime syndicates allows Vess to go on missions and collect more rewards. While there are choices the player can make as Vess that could hurt her reputation in the game, there are more than enough chances for her to increase her reputation as well. This is ultimately one of the more factors to consider when it comes to choosing if the player wants to give the ring back to Gorak.
If the player gives him the ring, it will increase reputation with the Pykes, which can be beneficial later on with missions and allow Vess to access areas otherwise closed off to her.
