A video sequel is a tough prospect, it needs to retain the spirit of the original whilst simultaneously pushing the series forward, both narratively and mechanically. Oh, and it needs to look better, too. One of the ways Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is managing that conundrum is by utilising the power of the PS5 to create larger and more elaborate worlds.
That's according to an interview in PLAY Magazine (thanks MP1st) with game director Stig Asmussen, who explains that «Bottom line, we learned quickly that we could take advantage of the faster processors, larger/faster memory, better loading times, etc, to create much larger maps, with more detail, greater density, broader enemy/NPC variety, and overall fidelity.»
Asmussen stresses that the team at Respawn didn't want to mess with what made Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order so well-received, instead aiming to enhance the sequel through a more natural evolution of the game's play spaces, stating that «this new generation [of hardware] allowed us to do exactly that, and I believe it translates to a true new-gen experience in the Star Wars universe.»
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor was delayed until 28th April, but as we are most of the way through February now, the additional six weeks will fly by in a flash. We got some new gameplay recently, so check that out in the meantime if you haven't already.
