Creative Assembly has shared a little more of their upcoming online multiplayer shooter Hyenas, revealing a new map, new Hyena character and a snippet of zero-G gameplay.
They’re also kicking off the largest alpha test phase yet, with the ability to sign up now at playhyenas.com, and with the test running for the next 10 days.
Announced last June, Hyenas is a multiplayer shooter where teams of players compete to steal back the loot that the ultra rich on Mars are trying to ship out from Earth to the red planet. You’ll head onto Plunderships and try to reclaim cool tat that is basically a bit pointless, but probably has some nostalgia factor? In the process you’ll have to battle the security on the ship, but then also other teams of players to get to the exfil.
There’s two maps that they’ve shown off so far with We Took Manhattan featuring the Statue of Liberty, and the newly revealed Greed is Good a much larger map that’s filled with 80s nostalgia.
Alongside that is the latest Hyena hero character, called Hero-ki. This is a cosplayer who’s basically dressed up like an off-brand Sonic, but has the character ability of a camera that lets him disguise himself as a native security guard, or potentially other players. He’s got a little bit of Apex Legends’ Mirage about him, if I had to pin down a character archetype.
Lastly, there were literally just a few snippets of live gameplay, showing zero-G battles. It would have been nice to see a little bit more than that, really…
Hyenas is coming to Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC sometime in 2023, but you can sign up for that closed alpha test now, and slip into the game on PC over the next 10 days.
