Star Wars Jedi: Surivor patch 7 is out now across PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, with a real focus placed on optimisation for the two console platforms. In particular, there’s an improved performance mode on console that ditches ray-tracing in order to hit 60 FPS.
Originally launching earlier this year, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor shipped with both a quality mode that wove together the latest Unreal Engine tech with ray-tracing effects and targeted 30 FPS on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and a performance mode that made some compromises and allowed for a 60 FPS target. However, in practice, the performance mode did not give a steady 60 FPS, and there were also dips in performance in quality mode as well.
So Respawn has been at work over the last few months continuing to optimise the game on console. They’ve made both CPU and GPU optimisations that for quality mode helps to reduce FPS fluctuation and allow them to make some visual improvements (likely in terms of the variable resolution), while the performance mode has been overhauled, removing costly ray-tracing effects in particular as they shoot for a 60 FPS lock. There’s also now support for VRR on PS5, which should help with any dips, if you have a compatible TV or screen.
Over on PC, meanwhile, there’s been similar optimisation, and the addition of DLSS upscaling support for Nvidia GPUs.
