A new fan-made game, has been announced. The new title is inspired by the series and will be coming to an unexpected but perfect platform.
As reported by , Frogbull — the developer who got and running on the Saga Saturn — has announced the unofficial gaming on his Patreon, along with the news that the title will be coming to Sega's Dreamcast console. will put players in the cockpit of the iconic X-Wing fighter and task them with taking down waves of TIE fighters, and The Sega Guys has already had a chance to get hands-on with its demo, pointing out that the game is full of Easter eggs and plenty of features to make geeks smile.
Despite Sega crafting several impressive arcade games at the end of the '90s, such as and, these games never made their way to the Dreamcast. Instead, only three titles were released on the console:,, and. Frogbull went on to point out that "", which he called a "" given the console's capabilities at the time and the fact that Nintendo 64 and PC players were able to play the acclaimed which did just that.
Frogbull aims to remedy this with, which he has put together by utilizing 3D models from different games such as Pandemic Studios' — which is getting its own rerelease on modern consoles this month — to recreate iconic vehicles and environments. He also took the Mission Control and Hangar Bay HF-201 from the aforementioned and used AI technology to recreate the voice of C-3PO to make the game seem more authentic when combined with music and sounds from other classic games.
While it's a shame the Sega Dreamcast never got an official title that put players in the cockpit of some of the franchise's most iconic ships, finally seems to be righting this wrong over two decades after the console's release. Frogbull has already mentioned new features he wants to add to the game, such as a temperature gauge for the X-Wing's weapons in his chat with The Sega Guys, so there will be plenty more in store for those following his Patreon.
