It's almost tradition these days for Hollow Knight fans to spam Silksong in the live chat accompanying almost any showcase event, no matter the size, and regardless of whether they believe it's actually going to show up or not. PlayStation could announce a live stream solely dedicated to showing off one of its first-party titles, and there would still be Hollow Knight fans in the live chat hoping for a "one more thing" Silksong release date reveal.
It was no exception at the Triple-I Initiative showcase earlier today, in which we saw a new Prince of Persia game announced, as well as several interesting indies such as Risk of Rain 2. However, despite not really believing it would show up at all, Hollow Knight fans have come away from this one a little more irritated than usual, and that's due to Triple-I having a little bit of fun at their expense.
Being a showcase dedicated to upcoming indie titles, the organizers knew Silksong fans would be out in full force and ready to spam their fabled game's name in the chat. Instead of just ignoring them like most publishers do, Triple-I decided to include a joke in its countdown to the event, referencing a "highly anticipated metroidvania with an insect." You can see the joke in question at the 4 minute 20 second mark in the video embedded above.
It's a very tongue-in-cheek joke, like most of them that featured in that little countdown window, taking shots at the use of AI and leak culture, but it seems to have unintentionally ignited the ire of Hollow Knight fans something fierce. Take a look down the Hollow Knight: Silksong subreddit and you'll find numerous people either disappointed, sad, angry, or an unhealthy mixture of all of the above.
You'll find reactions from people calling Triple-I Initiative "f***ed up" and that the joke was "disrespectful towards the event itself." Others have accused the showcase of baiting fans in order to get them to watch and artificially inflate viewer numbers, while Reddit user
