A new Sonic the Hedgehog game is on the way to mobile later this year. Sega’s is a battle royale platformer coming to Android and iOS this winter, and fans can sign up for the beta now.
Sega announced the new game with a gameplay trailer on Wednesday. Set in a toy world created by Dr. Eggman, 32 players will compete across various third-person and side-scrolling platforming levels. Players can run like the wind as a wide range of Sonic characters. In addition to the titular blue hedgehog, playable characters include Shadow, Tales, Amy, Knuckles, Rogue, Eggman, Silver, Blaze, Big, and many more. Players can also collect rings to unlock new accessories to customize their avatars.
So far, Sega has only revealed the trailer and a few screenshots. However, they showcase the variety of levels and challenges that players will encounter. It’s not just obstacles they will have to look out for, as various enemies will try to stand in their way. Sonic Rumble also appears to feature boss battles in addition to the platforming stages.
Sega will presumably show more of the game over the next few months. However, fans have an opportunity to try the Sonic Rumble early by signing up for its upcoming closed beta test. Fans must apply before 11:59 PM PT on May 19 / 2:59 AM ET on May 20. The test runs from May 24 to May 26 and is divided into multiple time slots. Fans can find more information and sign up for the beta on the game’s official site.
