Apple Vision Pro is getting a new VR experience based on Marvel’s What If? from Marvel Studios and ILM Immersive. The Marvel’s What If? animated series first premiered on Disney+ in 2021 and featured a compilation of stories from across the MCU’s multiverse, as narrated by Uatu the Watcher. These stories present alternate scenarios that retell key moments from the MCU films, with many of the actors from the movies reprising their roles. The second season of Marvel’s What If? premiered in late 2023, with a third season currently in production.
In addition to spawning an upcoming spin-off series based on Season 1’s Marvel Zombies episode, Marvel’s What If? has inspired later MCU movies, with a variant of Captain Peggy Carter appearing as a member of the Illuminati in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness. What If? is also being used to expand on the lore of the MCU in new ways, with the brand-new hero Kahhori debuting in Season 2 and Season 3 being rumored to feature Storm of X-Men fame ahead of her live-action MCU introduction.
Now Apple Vision Pro users will be able to look into the multiverse for themselves in What If…? — An Immersive Story, the first-ever interactive Disney+ Original story coming exclusively to the VR headset. This new virtual experience was first announced on Marvel.com, with several of the project’s developers sitting down for an interview to explain what fans can expect. Just like the series, What If…? — An Immersive Story will take players on a journey through alternate realities in the MCU, where they will encounter variants of iconic characters, learn the Mystic Arts, and even harness the power of the Infinity Stones.
What If…? — An Immersive Story will take full advantage of Apple Vision Pro’s cutting-edge spatial computing capabilities to allow players to interact with the multiverse on a level never seen before with their eyes and hands.
