Final Fantasy 14 fans are upset with the Crystarium Prodigy’s Attire – the newest online store outfit – because of its cost, limitations, and similarities to an existing gear set. While many of the optional Final Fantasy 14 cash shop glamours are popular, this outfit has left players feeling dissatisfied.
Alphinaud Leveilleur is one of the most popular members of the Scions of the Seventh Dawn – the group of allied NPCs Final Fantasy 14 players work with throughout the game’s story. Over the years, Alphinaud has had several wardrobe changes, most of which have been made available on the FF14 online store later on, with his Shadowbringers-era clothes only just now arriving in the form of the Crystarium Prodigy’s Attire.
However, some fans have pointed out that the Crystarium Prodigy’s Attire basically already exists in the game right now. The Brightlinen Scouting and Serge sets are nearly identical to Alphinaud’s outfit, with the only differences being its color and a few minor details. These sets are also dyable and obtainable in the game, while the Crystarium Prodigy's Attire is locked to a single color, and costs $12 on the FF14 online store – the same price as a month of game time. That said, the in-game sets are locked to certain jobs, but beyond that, players think there is little reason to purchase this new outfit.
This isn’t the first time Final Fantasy 14 has done something like this. Iceheart’s Attire, a cash shop glamour inspired by Ysayle from the critically acclaimed Final Fantasy 14: Heavensward expansion, is nearly identical to several in-game sets as well. Like the Crystarium Prodigy's set, it is non-dyable and does not include the iconic character’s hairstyle.
Fans are understandably upset by this new cash shop glamour, especially because some of its other outfits have been excellent. Beyond these issues, many players are also disappointed that a third Alphinaud outfit was added to the store before those of popular Final Fantasy 14 characters like
