Paramount+ shares the first trailer for Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 3, teasing a heist of the U.S.S. Cerritos. Star Trek: Lower Decks premiered as only the second cartoon series in the extensive Trek franchise following 1973's Star Trek: The Animated Series, though Star Trek: Prodigy has since followed. Lower Decks was created by Mike McMahan, who has a background in cartoons, writing for Rick and Morty and Solar Opposites. Star Trek: Lower Decks makes the distinct choice to follow the support crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos, stepping away from the franchise's usual focus on the bridge crew. The series also takes itself less seriously than most Star Trek franchise entries since Lower Decks is a comedy. Season 2 ended with a cliffhanger that saw Lewis' Captain Freeman placed under arrest when evidence pointed to her working with the Klingons.
