Warning: SPOILERS forStar Trek: Strange New Worlds Episode 1 — «Strange New Worlds»
The premiere of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds ends with the shocking introduction of Lieutenant Kirk, but it's not James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley), the future Captain of the Enterprise. Strange New Worlds is set months after the ending ofStar Trek: Discovery season 2. With a new crew joining Lt. Spock (Ethan Peck) and Number One, Lt. Commander Una Chin-Riley (Rebecca Romijn), Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) leads the Starship Enterprise on a new five-year mission of exploration. Surprisingly, there's also a Kirk on the bridge of Strange New Worlds' Enterprise, Lt. George Samuel Kirk (Dan Jeannotte).
Sam Kirk made only one appearance in Star Trek: The Original Series and he was already dead it happened. Sam was portrayed by William Shatner in his only Star Trek role that wasn't James T. Kirk or a variation of the Captain. TOS established that George Samuel Kirk was Jim's older brother; in «Operation — Annihilate!» Sam was a research biologist living on the planet Deneva who was married to a woman named Aurelan (Joan Swift), and they had three sons. Jim was the only one who called his older brother «Sam.» The elder brother was killed by flying parasites and Kirk's dead body was found by Jim at the start of «Operation — Annihilate!» Besides the one time in TOS Sam Kirk was seen on camera, he was mentioned in «What Are Little Girls Made Of?» as Sam helped send off his younger brother's five-year mission as Captain of the Enterprise in 2265. Sam was meant to appear in J.J. Abrams' Star Trek 2009 but his scenes were cut out of the film although they can be found in the Blu-ray's bonus features.
