Fans of Square Enix’s Mana JRPG series were in for a treat at 2023’s The Game Awards with the announcement of Visions of Mana, the first mainline entry in the series since 2006’s Dawn of Mana on the PlayStation 2.
The Mana series has gotten a lot of love over at Square Enix over the past couple of years, with remakes of Adventures of Mana, Secret of Mana, and Trials of Mana released in 2016, 2018, and 2020, respectively.
A new mainline entry in the series by Square Enix could give the series a revival along the lines the Dragon Quest series received in 2017 with the release of Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age, the first main entry in the series since 2009’s Dragon Quest IX on the Nintendo DS.
Visions of Mana features a semi-open world where players will play as Val who hails from the Fire Village of Tianeea. A Faerie visits Val’s village as part of a quadrennial festival to choose people fated to visit the Tree of Mana. The Faerie selects Val’s childhood friend and Val must accompany her to the Tree of Mana as her soul guard.
Visions of Mana will release on the PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and PC in 2024.
