The entire SpongeBob SquarePants Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks movie leaked on X (formerly Twitter) on January 21, 2024. Most accounts that had the leaked movie on their pages have faced a copyright strike from Paramount Global save for one user by the name of Indicator.
The cause of the leak has been supposedly linked to a networking mistake from last year when Pipeline Studios had their entire file server opened to the public for a while, during which the movie was uploaded onto Twitter where it remained for 5 hours before being taken out in response to a report from Paramount Global. However, one user had reuploaded the video to Twitter and it remains there as of publishing.
The reason for the film coming to Netflix is because of the deal Nickelodeon (who own the rights to the SpongeBob SquarePants franchise) made with the streaming giant in 2020, wherein all upcoming projects from Nickelodeon or involving them (such as the upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender live-action series) would make their way onto Netflix.
The story of SpongeBob SquarePants Saving Bikini Bottom will see SpongeBob and Sandy Cheeks join forces to reclaim Bikini Bottom and their friends Patrick, Squidward, and the rest of the gang after they are stolen from the ocean by a new mysterious enemy.
