Today, Sony quietly announced that the price of all PlayStation Plus subscriptions are increasing globally on Sept. 6.
As the PlayStation.Blog reveals, the price increases are substantial:
PlayStation Plus Essential 12-Month Subscription
79.99 USD | 71,99 Euro | 59.99 GBP | 6,800 Yen
PlayStation Plus Extra 12-Month Subscription
134.99 USD | 125,99 Euro | 99.99 GBP | 11,700 Yen
PlayStation Plus Premium 12-Month Subscription
159.99 USD | 151,99 Euro | 119.99 GBP | 13,900 Yen
For reference, the current Plus subscription pricing in the US is set at $59.99 for Plus Essential, $99.99 for Plus Extra, and $119.99 for Plus Premium.
Sony says that the new prices for 12-month subscriptions "remain at a discounted rate when compared to purchasing the 1-Month or 3-Month subscriptions over a 12-month period." Paying between an extra $20-$40 a year for the service will have some gamers questioning the value and potentially downgrading to a lower tier. The cheapest $79.99 Plus Essential tier gets you two game downloads a month, cloud storage for save games, online multiplayer, and exclusive discounts.
Sony started rolling out the all-new PlayStation Plus in May last year and automatically migrated PlayStation Now subscribers over to the Plus Premium tier, which
